Twice a day, the community gathers in the chapterhouse. The monks see it as a family room. The morning, after Prime, they walk in procession into the chapterhouse to chant an excerpt of the Rule of Saint Benedict, with a brief commentary by the Father Abbot. Occasionally the profès (friars who have made simple religious vows) deliberate over points of interest to the community. In the evening, before the last office of the day, the brothers gather again around the Father Abbot to some news, exchange prayer intentions, or listen to an inspiring reading. The chapter room is designed soberly; on the walls are portraits of the founders and an icon of Christ.
